4 days Riding & Gliding with Peloton De Paris co-owner Stijn.

Come and discover our insights on how and where to catch that first ray of sun, preferably on the bike. But who dares to say 'no' to some treats after a long day out on the saddle...

Early March, sunny days are starting to emerge. A fresh breeze: no gloves, but sleeves to tackle those first hours on the bike. Windstoppers when downhill or for the windy days. Short sleeves, late in the afternoon, when feeling all pumped and warmed up after those beautiful coastal rides. Mallorca, that's the MA10, that's Sa Calobra, Andraxt, Lluc Monastery, Formentor Lighthouse. Mallorca, still an cyclist walhalla...

on the bike: 4 days - 4 routes

Our basecamp was 'PORT DE SOLLER'. A 40min drive from the airport, or Palma. Situated in the NE of the island, in the Tramuntana mountain range. Read: calm, scenic landscapes, small bay areas, mountainous, friendly hotels, ...

ROUTE 1:
soller - valldemossa

+- 60k with two 'gentle colls': coll de soller and coll de Valldemossa.

Perfect for a day 1 spin.

Both climbs are approx 6k, with an average 5-6% gradient. Up and down in no time:)

The long stretch in between the colls is a nice extra, makes you enter 'trainingmode'like a champ.

route 2:
sa calobra

Well, must we explain? Just. GO.

Do it once, twice, every year... Combine it with Coll de Reis, Femenia, straight up to Formentor? Or come from the other way: Gorg Blau after a long climb that starts at... Soller: Tunnel de Monnaber... Go check Strava, Climbfinder, Komoot, the options all there:)

We took it back and forth: Soller - tunnel de Monnaber - coll de Reis - Sa Calobra and the same way back.

For those 'unaware': Sa Calobra is one way up and down!

And as in all good places, there's coffee, and hot chocolate.

ROUTE: CLICK HERE (+-100k with +3000m ascent)

route 3:
to the lighthouse

The Lighthouse is a common and welknown highlight on the island, not only for cyclists that is... And just like 'Sa Calobra', there's a reason to it. And believe me, the road towards it, is just as promising.

Spoiler alert, if you plan to start at Port De Soller: it's a +-80k ride, one way.

In good condition? GO. Otherwise, I hope some of your friends are tired and take the day off. So they can wait for you at the finish and drive you home afterwards:)

ROUTE: CLICK HERE(80k with 1670m ascent)

route 4:
andratx

Personally, our favourite ride. Let us explain, there are no real highlights in this route. And we did this one on a breezy Sunday. Which means: calm, not too crowdy, peacefull. Do we sound old now? Sorry, not sorry.

But truth be told, this one is a stunner. This route is more up North, near Calvia.

A lot of climbs are hidden in the shades of the higher trees, which makes it perfect to do in summer I guess.

It's a 90k ride, which you can make longer if the legs are up for it.

what's there, besides the bike...

As mentioned above, our basecamp was set up in PORT DE SOLLER,

a little bay in the NW of the island.

Being only human, we can't ride our bikes 24/7.

So what to do (read: EAT), after a day out on the saddle.

6 hotspots - Port de Soller:

  • BIKINI BEACH - Boutique hotel & Restaurant A cool place to hangout, by the pool or at the bar. It's located at a 5min walk from the small port, beach at same distance. Probably the momst fancy place on the area. Feels like a workhub in a city, with lots of buzz and fuzz. No room needed, book a night out in the restaurant, Ottolenghi lovers will love it.

  • TRAMUNTANA TOURS - bike rental / shop They have CANYON, need to say more? And you can stack up the best nutrition bars and gels from CHIMPANSEE and GU ENERGY. Friendly rental, no-nonsense vibe, A+ bikes...

  • OCEA - smoothie & apero bar Try the Snickers Protein Shake, it's a must. Especially if you're all beaten up after all the climbing on the island. Isn't Malllorca all about long beaches and bungalows? NO.

*After The ProteĆÆn Shake...

All refreshed after your ride, feel like going some place fancy, to watch the hipster incrowd while eating some 'catch of the day'. Yep, book here. And a loungebed afterwards.

  • LIGHTHOUSE - easy walk I can't only talk about food now, can't I... Legs still feeling fresh, or need a littke shake off. You can see the lighthouse from all across the bay. It's a 45min walk. Enjoy the view from above. Tip: You pass 'PATIKI BEACH', so combine these two for a perfect afternoon or evening walk.

Located in the harbour, on the small street, packed with other local restaurants. We decided to go for some fresh paella, and it did not disappoint...

Mallorca, we had a lot of fun. On and off the bike. We're thinking about going back, after summer?

Want to join us? We be happy to have you.

For now, Go ride!

Stijn & Johan,

Team Peloton
